Lyons was an unincorporated town until 2009 when it became a census-designated part of Cook County. Lyons has a rich history, most notably designated by a statue that was erected at the Chicago Portage National Historic Site. The statue was built to commemorate the opening on the Illinois-Michigan Canal.
